After a long wait, Skoda has finally launched the new Octavia in India at a starting price of Rs 15.49 lakhs. The new model is available in three variants - Ambition, Style and Style Plus. The new Octavia is available in four colour options - quartz grey, brilliant silver, candy white and magic black.
Under the hood, the new Octavia available in petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol trim is available in two engine options - 1.4-litre and 1.8-litre engines which generate 148bhp at 5000rpm and 177bhp at 5100rpm respectively. The diesel on the other hand is powered by a 2.0-litre engine that generates 141bhp of power at 3500rpm. The smaller petrol engine is restricted to manual transmission and is available in Ambition and Style variant, while the bigger petrol engine is available in Style and Style Plus variants and gets automatic transmission as standard. The diesel manual is offered as standard in the Ambition variant, while the Style variant offers an automatic option. The top-spec Style Plus is available only in automatic variant.
On the design aspect, all the variant appear to be the same except for the top-spec Style Plus which offers slightly more cosmetic detailing. However the variants offer different set of features, where the Ambition variant offers rear AC vents, tilt and telescopic steering adjustment, height-adjustable driver seat and dual-zone climate control. The model variant also offers a touchscreen infotainment system, steering mounted controls, halogen headlamps, dual airbags and outside mirror defogger with timer.
The Style variant in addition to having features from the Ambition variant, also offers automatic adaptive LED headlight with washer, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, steering-mounted paddle shifters and a large 8-inch infotainment system. Other added features in the Style variant includes a reversing camera, auto dimming internal/external mirrors and curtain airbags.
The Style Plus being a top-spec version, it additionally offers key entry and push button start, rear spoiler (petrol), satellite navigation system, panoramic electric sunroof, automatic parking system and 12-way power adjustable driver seat with memory function. Additionally the top spec version aslo offers 16-inch Alcatraz alloys, fatigue alert warning, tyre pressure monitoring system and auto tilting outside mirrors on reverse gear selection.
For customers looking to buy the new Skoda Octavia but are unsure of which variant to settle down with, the Octavia Style variant can be a good choice. The mid-level variant offers all the necessary equipment along with an optional automatic transmission. As for customers who will settle for nothing but the best, you have the feature loaded Style Plus variant with all the fancy array of electronics. Safety equipment like ABS with EBD and ESP is offered as a standard across variants.
