Porsche unveiled its all new twin-turbo V8 motor at the 37th International Vienna Motor Symposium on May 5. Sources have now confirmed that this mill will be used in various premium VW group applications.

Porsche claims that the new V8 engine sports a cylinder deactivation system which has led to a 30 per cent dip in fuel consumption when compared to the older motor. A total of 549bhp is available on tap, and makes it fall short only by 21bhp when compared to the 4.8-litre twin-turbo V8 that’s presently powering the Panamera Turbo S. It will either be coupled to a ZF eight-speed dual-clutch automatic or a ZF eight-speed automatic depending on the application. There’s also information connecting the similarity of the new motor to Audi’s new turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 which is now in use in the new S4.

Once this motor debuts in the international market, it will only be a matter of time when these updated versions find their way to the Indian cars too.
