Buoyed by the excellent response for new City and Mobilio MPV, Honda Cars India is now gearing up to launch the new generation Jazz hatchback. Unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, the new Jazz will go on sale in the country sometime in the first quarter of the next fiscal year. For the first time, the Jazz hatchback will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options.

Honda has recently started a new shift at its second production unit in Tapukara, Rajasthan. And it is expected that the new Jazz will soon enter the production line. This time, the company has raised the localization to keep its price competitive in the market. It will compete against the likes of new Hyundai i20, Maruti Swift and Volkswagen Polo. Based on an all-new platform, the hatchback gets the same cab forward design. The interiors of the hatchback shows the company’s popular “Man Maximum Machine Minimum” design philosophy.

Under the hood, the new Honda Jazz will get the 1.2-litre i-VTEC and 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine. While the petrol engine is capable of developing 87bhp and 109Nm of torque, the oil burner is good for 99bhp and 200Nm of peak torque. It is also likely to be the most fuel efficient hatchback in its league, thanks to its highly efficient 1.5L i-DTEC unit. It is also expected that the company would offer a sporty variant- Jazz RS which will be powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC unit. Power is transmitted to front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission gearbox. Moreover, the petrol version will also come with automatic gearbox.
