Japanese manufacturer Honda Cars India has managed to register more than 22,000 bookings for its new compact sedan Amaze, in a period of around three weeks. This is much more than the response received during the launch of the Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire a year back, which registered 20,000 bookings within 18-20 days. Reportedly, dealers are struggling to meet the growing demands for this vehicle, as a steady stream of buyers continues to walk in for test drives at the Honda dealerships across the country.

As per the queries and bookings, it appears that the Amaze has surpassed the demands of other Honda vehicles such as Brio and City. Most enquiries are rapidly being converted into confirmed bookings. Dealers have to keep their showrooms open well past regular hours. In other words, the demand for this vehicle has surpassed the demand for all other Honda vehicles in its 18 year old Indian history. Commenting on the same, an executive from Honda Cars India stated, “We have witnessed a large number of walk-ins since the launch of the Amaze; several more wait to drive the car. On most days, the showrooms are open till 8 pm, but now, it's extended to 10-10.30 pm.”

Interestingly, the entire Indian auto industry is currently witnessing a slowdown. Amidst this, such positive news from Honda comes as a sign of better things to come. During this period, other auto manufacturers have to offer heavy discounts and innovative finance options to clear pending stock.

The new Amaze is available at a starting price of Rs. 4.99 lakh for the petrol variant. Prices of the vehicle range from Rs. 4.99 lakh to Rs. 7.60 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). It is available both with manual and automatic gearboxes. As per reports, Honda can build 4500 to 5000 units of the Amaze every month due to production constraints. Vehicles such as Brio, Amaze, Civic, CR-V, City and Accord are being manufactured at the Greater Noida facility. Only 3000 Amaze vehicles were built to handle the initial lot of bookings.
