Korean car-maker Hyundai has been a strong brand name in the Indian car market. Reports have been doing rounds in the automotive circuit regarding a possible launch of the i20 hatchback. Most recent update hinting about a possibility for this car launch came from some good old folks at Motor Vikatan. Spy images for the same suggest that the car was spotted undergoing road test In Chennai.
As per sources, the i20 hatchback is expected to be powered by a 1.2 Litre Kappa 2 engine that generates about 83 PS of power, whereas the diesel version is expected to be powered by 1.4 Litre engine that generates about 90 PS of power. It is anticipated that all the engines may be mated to a 5 speed or a 6 speed manual transmission. Reports also suggest a possibility of 4 speed automatic transmission being used in a petrol version.
The car appears to carry a longer wheelbase, thereby providing better cabin space in comparison to the existing version. Interiors seems to be left untouched for now, but better color shading and quality dashboard can be expected from the mass scale production version. At first look the front grill seems to positioned at a lower angle. At the rear, the car sports tailgate-mounted spoiler, turn indicators on the rear-view mirrors as seen in the existing line, has also been retained in this upcoming version.
As per sources, the mysterious upcoming Hyundai i20 has been codenamed 'IB' by Hyundai. Detailed specifications about the car has not been revealed for now. Pricing for the car is also expected to be revealed post an official unveiling by the Korean car-maker. The hatchback may probably be unveiled at the Paris Motor show due to be held sometime in second half of 2014.
It will be first launched in the European nations, then will be brought to India. Although, there is no official announcement on the exact launch time of the car in India, we are expecting it to be here by early 2015.
