      New Fiat Linea T-Jet model launched at Rs. 7.6 lakh

      The Indian arm of Italian car maker, Fiat has launched its all new T-Jet version of the Linea sedan to cater to the growing demand of petrol-run cars in this segment. This new model of the Linea is now offered in three different variants with price tags in the range of Rs. 7.6 to 8.88 lakh. Currently, the car maker has only Punto hatchback and Linea in its Indian lineup. The company is gearing up to add more products to its portfolio to multiply its market share two-fold to 1 per cent by the end of FY 2013-14.

      Speaking on the new launch, President and Managing Director (MD), Fiat India, Nagesh Basavanhalli, said, “With the Linea T-Jet, we are looking to sell at least 50 cars a month in eight of the cities that we are looking to launch the car initially.”

      The new Linea T-Jet model boasts of additional features, such as remote audio system, automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution and disc brakes. These features come as a standard on all three variants of the model. These three trim levels have been named as Active, Dynamic and Emotion. The Active and Dynamic variant of T-Jet Linea comes with 15 inch wheels offering a ground clearance of 185 mm. On the other hand, the top-end Emotion variant boasts of 16 inch wheels to make for a ground clearance of 190 mm.

      This new model from the house of Turin-based car maker is served by the 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol powertrain. The engine unit is designed to develop a maximum power output of 112.44 bhp and peak torque of 207 Nm. Mated to a five-speed manual transmission unit, this powertrain unit offers an impressive mileage of 15.7 kmpl. The new model will be offered in five new attractive colours, viz. Tuscan White, New Pearl White, Minimal Grey, Hip Hip Black and Oceanic Blue.

      Next on the agenda of the car maker is to add nine more new products to its portfolio at the earliest by 2016. One of the launch in pipeline is from the US-based Jeep brand, which is much awaited in the Indian market. With the steep growth in the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment, Fiat will try to gain market share by launching three new models from Jeep by the end of December 2013. Out of the nine planned launches, Fiat and Chrysler will launch four each and the last one will be an Abarth launch in the Indian auto market.
