The new BMW 5 Series has been spotted in the more desirable long wheelbase form. The car, as expected, has been designed specifically for China and will be out sometime during the first quarter of next year.

To be called the 5Li, this more spacious iteration will have its wheelbase extended by around 10cm and as a result, will feature a different roofline post the B-pillar. In all probability, it will make its public debut during the Beijing Auto Show in April next year.

The 2017 5Li will be made by the Brilliance-BMW joint venture. It will be offered with a range of petrol engines with four, six and even eight cylinder configurations. When launched, the 5Li will compete with other stretched luxury sedans namely the Mercedes E-Class L, Audi A6 L and the upcoming Volvo S90 L.
