The Singur protests seem far from being over. Tata Motors has pulled down its shutters at its Singur plant till its gets a clear picture from the government regarding the deal signed between the government and the protestors. It has already issued a strong letter to the government regarding the settlement and has expressed its distress.

While the rest of the world awaits the final outcome, Tata Motors is preparing its plan B. Speculations had been rife over whether world's cheapest car will roll out from Tata Pune plant in Maharashtra or its manufacturing facility in Pantnagar in Uttranchal. It was also rumoured that Tata has asked its vendors to send Nano components and spares to its Pune plant for nearly 200 Nano cars. Thus it was believed that Tata Nano may eventually roll out from Tata Motors Pune plant in Maharashtra. However, Tata spokesperson has clearly denied taking any such decision.

"We have not made any such announcement, we have not taken any such decision, we have not said any such thing,” a company spokesperson told IANS.

On the other hand, fresh protests have loomed up in the front of the Singur plant where protestors refuse to give up their stand. "We have not given up the protests, we have only suspended our agitation," said Partha Chattopdhayay, a senior leader of the Trinamool Congress, which has halted protests for seven days.

The government officials have also started scouting for excess land around a factory to build the Nano ancillary units. The state government hopes to defuse the row by returning some land and rehabilitating some to the newly acquired land.
