The Indian auto giant Tata Motors is expected to return to West Bengal in upcoming summer season as the ruling party CPM is speculated to use the return of Tata Nano as an election tool against Mamata Banerjee's opposition party TMK. It is to be mentioned here that Tata Motors was forced to leave from the state and relocate its Nano manufacturing unit to Sanand in Gujarat due to a heavy farmer protest led by opposition party TMK. However, no official statement has been made by the company regarding its return to the West Bengal.

As per recent local media reports, the Indian auto giant is ready to renew the lease of its acquired land in Singure. According to a statement given by a senior official of Delhi-based ancillary (that supplies body components for Nano) to TOI, “The decision has already been taken to renew the lease. We will now formally issue the cheque to West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC). This decision has been taken after discussion with Tata Motors.”

Meanwhile, the sales of Tata Nano are showing signs of recovery as the car returned in the top 10 cars in the country in February 2011. The company managed to sell 8,262 units of the car in the country during the month.
