Volkswagen, Europe's largest car maker, today announced the launch of its highly anticipated Polo GT TDI in the Indian automotive market. Notably, after the success of Polo GT TSI, customers were expecting the launch of a diesel variant and company has complied to it just in time. The distinctive drift towards diesel variants is for want of improved fuel efficiency and performance.
Arvind Saxena, the Managing Director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd, commenting on the eventual launch of Polo GT TDI. "We are committed to bringing in the latest and the most efficient vehicle technologies to the Indian market. The New Polo GT TDI has been created to cater to the requirements of discerning customers, who want the best possible mix of strong power delivery, outstanding driving dynamics and class-leading fuel efficiency," he was quoted as saying.
Volkswagen Polo GT TDI happens to be a premium hatchback that derives its power from a revolutionary 1598 cc, 1.6-litre TDI engine, mated with efficient 5-speed manual gearbox. As per the statistics revealed by the auto major, the engine is able to give an output of 103 bhp at 4400 rpm and torque of 250 Nm at 1500-2500 rpm. The power and torque are one of the best in the segment and as such, this hatchback will provide enhanced on-road performance.
Exteriors are marked by Halogen headlights with black finish, 'GT' Chrome front grille, 6Jx15 'Estrada' alloy wheels and body coloured outside door handles, mirrors and bumpers. Overall speaking, the front fascia has a distinctive look that is sure to impress the price sensitive Indian buyers. Interiors are also well pace-up with dynamically changing preferences of customers. Scratch resistant plastic has been used inside the cabin for an extended life duration. Furthermore, interiors have been embellished with chrome surrounds. Polo GT TDI comprehensively covers the safety and security aspects to ensure a safe city and highway drive. The hatchback comes with ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) and Dual front airbags, driver and co-passenger side to improve braking and safeguard passenger life. Both rear and front have been given fog lamps for improved driveability under non-conducive driving conditions. Other safety features are pinch guard safety for all four power windows and electronic engine immobiliser with floating code.
