Chowdhury had taken over as the CEO of the company on May 10, 2014. Hindustan Motors is not producing the Ambassador car anymore as work at the company's Uttarpara plant in West Bengal has been suspended since May 24, 2014.

Japanese commercial and sports utility vehicle major Isuzu has also been reportedly chalking out plans to evaluate its current contract manufacturing tie-up with Hindusthan Motors. The company's very own manufacturing plant in India is being built at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore and is expected to be ready for operations sometime by April 2016.
