BMW that rolled out the new Mini Cooper D in three and five door versions in November 2014, today rolled out the performance-oriented MINI Cooper S model at Rs 34.65 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
The Mini Cooper S petrol gets a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder twinturbo unit that churns out a maximum power output of 192bhp and a peak torque of 280Nm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels of the car via a six-speed automatic gearbox. The performance-oriented Cooper S accelerates to 100kmph from zero in mere 6.7 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 233kmph. The hatchback is claimed to return an ARAI certified fuel economy of 18.2kmpl.
Based on BMW's new UKL front-wheel drive platform, that also underpins the next-gen BMW 1-Series, the Mini Cooper S also gets a new front suspension and revised rear suspension set-up. The hatchback is 3,821mm long, 1,414mm tall and 1,727mm wide and has a wheelbase of 2,495mm. The small car's length, width, height and wheelbase have been increased by 98mm, 44mm, 7mm and 28mm, respectively. The company is offering a series of customization options to its customers for the wheels, roof, decals and interiors. Moreover, the car will also get 11 exterior shades. The boot space has been increased by 51-litres to 211-litres. The boot volume can be increased up to 731-litres by folding the rear seats. Its flared wheel arches have been fitted to newly developed 16-inch alloy wheels.
