Michael Schumacher, the seven times Formula One World Champion, has 'again' called it a day on October 4, 2012 at the press conference after the Japanese Grand Prix. The German racing driver for the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team bid farewell in a prepared emotional speech and received a huge round of applause and adulation by the media present at the conference.
It became a highly emotional moment for the 43 old German, as was evident when he stuttered a couple of times while giving his statement. Schumacher also thanked for the support of his wife Corinna, his worldwide fans and the Mercedes team, besides displaying a relaxed and content body language that had eluded him since his return to the sport.
Underlining his emotional attachment to the Formula One sport and grief of hanging his boots, Schumacher said, “In the past six years I have learned a lot about myself, for example that you can open yourself without losing focus, that losing can be both more difficult and more instructive than winning. Sometimes I lost this out of sight in the earlier years.”
Expressing his opinions on the past controversies, Schumacher further said, “We are all humans and we all make mistakes. And with hindsight you would probably do it differently if you had a second opportunity, but that's life.”
The German Formula One legend, who enjoyed most of his success at the hands of Ferrari Racing Team, came out of retirement at the onset of 2010 season. Most of the Formula One fanatics consider Schumacher to be the greatest asset ever known to the sport and believe that there will be some time before a new driver becomes eligible to claim his position.
