Mercedes-Benz India has introduced the new GLC starting at Rs 50.70 lakh for diesel and Rs 50.90 lakh for petrol (ex-showroom, Pune). The five-seater SUV is positioned between the GLA and GLE, to take on the BMW X3 and Audi Q5 in India.

The GLC looks more like a crossover than a proper SUV with lots of curves and flowing lines. It is still largest in the segment and looks majestic with the bold front design. Inside, the car can accommodate five in comfort and carry ample luggage in the 550litres boot. For now, Mercedes is importing the Edition 1 variant of the GLC and it has plenty of features like includes auto park assist, 360-degree camera view, powered tailgate, three-zone AC and an elaborate music system connected through COMAND interface with touchpad and navigation.

Under the hood, it has both petrol and diesel engine options. The GLC 220d diesel variant gets the 2.1-litre four-cylinder unit producing 168bhp and 400Nm of torque. The petrol version, on the other hand, is the more powerful GL 300, with 2.0-litre unit making 245bhp and 370Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated to the new nine-speed automatic transmission, delivering power through the AWD system.

The GLC Edition 1 is being imported to India in limited numbers and Mercedes India will soon start assembling the car here. The prices of the CKD model will certainly be lower than this, but will probably also miss out on many of the features from this trim.
