Mercedes Benz India, the second largest luxury car maker in the Indian market, is planning to launch its new GLS coupe in the Indian market. The new coupe will hit the Indian roads by year 2014 and its major competitor would be the BMW X6. The car will be developed on the platform of M Class SUV.
The Mercedes Benz GLS coupe is a four door coupe crossover. It will be rolled-out in both V6 and V8 engine options. Moreover, the car is also expected to be launched in a high powered AMG variant.
Besides BMW X6, the new Mercedes coupe will be fighting for space with the likes of Land Rover’s upcoming coupe version of Range Rover Sport. Also, BMW is planning to launch a fresh version of X6 to keep it competitive in the market among the new competitors.
At present, BMW is the top luxury car maker in the Indian market, followed by erstwhile luxury segment leader Mercedes Benz at the second spot. The launch of new GLS coupe will not only strengthen Mercedes' position in the country but will also enable it to compete more promptly with its arch rival BMW.
