Sources report that Mercedes-Benz has disclosed their intent to launch the facelifted S-Class in the global arena in April.

Touted to be the most technologically advanced car in the Merc fleet, this iteration will also borrow its safety and assistance systems from the new E-Class with a dash of more features. Head of automated driving, Dr Michael Hafner, stated that the company is just finalising the legal measures involved with autonomous driving functions in the upcoming S-Class.

From the spy shots that we reported in September, the facelifted S-Class gave away exterior updates like the reworked bumpers, and the restyled head and tail lights with refreshed internals. Powering the facelifted S-Class will be a new set of engines like the freshly developed inline-six petrol motor with an electric compressor, a 48V electrical system and an integrated starter-alternator. It is capable of making as much grunt as an eight-cylinder engine despite being substantially efficient. Furthermore, a new bi-turbo 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine is also expected to find its way to the new application. There’s also talk of a new inline-six turbodiesel engine with two-stage exhaust turbocharging and variable valve timing to power the upcoming S-Class.

Stay tuned for more information in the weeks to come as Merc readies for the global debut of the facelifted S-Class.
