The sleek and stylish Mercedes-Benz S400 has been launched for Rs 1.28 crores (Ex-Showroom, Delhi). The new S400 fills the gap between the S350 CDI and S500, as the base petrol model in the S-Class range. The S400 will be locally assembled at the Mercedes facility in Chakan, Pune.

The Mercedes-Benz S400 comes with a 3.0-litre, V6 petrol engine mated to a 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox that generates about 324bhp of power and 480Nm of torque.

The S400 gets the typical S-Class luxurious interior with high quality trim, air suspension, ample space for front and rear passengers. As for entertainment, it comes with Merc’s COMAND infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster, with dedicated screens for the rear seats. It also has massaging seats and rest of the creature comforts that one expects from this segment of vehicles. On the design aspect, the Mercedes-Benz S400 does not get major design upgrades and the only bit that quickly tells it apart from the rest, is the new badge at the rear.

The S-Class as a model competes with the Audi A8L, BMW 7 Series and the Jaguar XJ L. However, the XJ is the only other car, which offers a base petrol variant with a 2.0-litre engine.
