      Mercedes-Benz has revealed more details on a new 2.0-litre diesel engine which will make its official debut with the new E-Class E 220d. This is a four-cylinder engine and will replace the outgoing cars 2.2-litre unit.

      It is an all-aluminium engine, which is a first ever for a diesel motor. This has resulted in it managing to drop from 202kgs to 168kgs and in addition becoming more compact also. Updates in technology have also believed to have reduced vibrations as well as noise levels. This new engine produces 192bhp as compared to the 168bhp of the outgoing model.

      It now gets a nine-speed automatic and will be available in RWD and AWD format. In terms of numbers, the engine will push the car from 0-100kmph in 7.3 seconds and give it a top-speed of 240kmph.

      This engine is the first from a new set of four-cylinder engines that will soon find their way into various models that the German automaker produces. We in India are sure to get this engine as the 2.2-litre powers a number of vehicles in the Mercedes India range.
