Following its debut at the Beijing Motor Show last year, the long-wheelbase version of the Mercedes E-Class is headed for the Indian market.

Mercedes-Benz India to sell new E-Class in long-wheelbase form

In what can only be described as a bold move, Mercedes India has decided to introduce the highly anticipated 2017 E-Class in long-wheelbase guise. This longer, more spacious version of the E is currently sold in China only where there is a huge demand for long wheelbase luxury models.

The vehicle betters the standard E-Class in terms of both wheelbase (3079mm) and the length (5m). Naturally, the added length has improved the rear seat comfort – additional 134mm of legroom and better ingress/egress.

The long-wheelbase version is based on the standard W213 generation E-Class which was unveiled in early 2016. Like the latter, it gets the new-gen Mercedes look which is more streamlined and less pointy. Interestingly, the added length only emphasizes the S-Class like stance that the new E enjoys.
Mercedes India is expected to launch the long-wheelbase version of the new E-Class in the coming months. The vehicle is bound to attract a more niche audience than all its rivals in the mid-size premium segment.
