      Mercedes Benz India sales surge marginally during December 2011

      The country’s second largest luxury car maker, Mercedes Benz India, has registered a marginal surge in its sales during the month of December 2011. The company’s sales increased 2.82 per cent during the month. Mercedes India sales stood at 730 units during this month, as compared to 710 units sold in the same month previous year.

      Speaking on the company’s performance during the month Mr. Debashis Mitra, Mercedes-Benz India Director (Marketing and Sales), said, "This is a very good number and we are very happy with it. All the segments contributed almost equally in achieving this robust growth."

      In the calendar year 2011, the company sold a total of 7,430 units of its luxury cars, as compared to 5,819 units sold in the preceding calendar year, accounting for a sales surge of 27.69 per cent year on year.

      Without disclosing the sales numbers, the company said that models like C-Class and E-Class sedans accounted for major part of company’s sales during the month.

      While speaking on the company’s sales target and plans for the year 2011, Mr. Mitra said that the company is looking for a strong double-digit growth during in year 2012. The overall performance will depend on market situation, and the growth may come during later part of the year, he added.
