      Mercedes Benz India registers 30% surge in 2011 sales, gears up for new launches in 2012

      Mercedes-Benz India, one of the top three premium auto brands in the country, has closed its books of accounts for the 2011 registering a remarkable surge of 30 percent in its sales volume as compared to the sales recorded in 2010 amidst the huge variations in the Indian economic conditions.

      Mr. Debashis Mitra, Director - Sales & Marketing, Mercedes-Benz India, stated that the automaker has ended 2011 with impressive sales despite the adverse market conditions and has commenced the year 2012 with a series of new schemes, innovative initiatives and has streamlined new vehicle launches for the Indian market that will intensify the rivalry amongst the rising competitors in the luxury vehicle segment.

      He added that the sales of Mercedes-Benz India clocked at 7,430 units in 2011 in comparison to the sale of 5,819 units in the year ago period. He also revealed that the company has scored around 10 - 15 percent surge in sales during the period from January to April this year as compared to the corresponding period in 2011.

      Mercedes-Benz is ranked second in the premium segment in India and during the first quarter of 2012, the sale of over 2,269 units of Audi India highly dominated the sales of 2,130 units scored by Mercedes-Benz India during the same period.

      The German automaker is planning to strategically launch a series of new luxury cars for the Indian marker, of which the most awaited one is the MPV, Mercedes-Benz A-Class and a compact MPV, Mercedes-Benz B-Class. The company is also aiming to strengthen and expand its dealer distribution network coupled with new promotions and initiatives to be lined up for the Indian auto market.
