What you see in the pictures is a prototype version of Mercedes-Benz’s upcoming GLE being tested.

It is evident here that Mercedes-Benz will be enhancing the overall design for the 2017 model, rumoured to be internally codenamed as “W167”. Inspite of being heavily camouflaged, these pictures clearly display the new GLE’s profile, and also shows the design similarity with the current model (W166). There’s no denying that the upcoming model looks to be curvier, and also depicts the conspicuous bonnet lines and wheel arches which actively translate into an aggressive stance.

Under the hood, the next-generation GLE is expected to borrow engines from the E-Class. Which would mean the option of a high performance V8, two versions of the six-cylinder twin-turbo motor, and a plug-in hybrid. These engines should be mated to their nine-speed automatic transmission, and will be offered with an all-wheel drive.

Merc’s GLE, essentially a rebadged and remodelled version of the aging M-Class, has had to deal with the intense present day competition in the segment. So, ideally speaking, the next GLE is expected to be more spacious on the inside, and a lot more luxurious too.
