Kern further added that the parent company Daimler, sees India as a prominent growth market and with the assembling of GL-Class in India, it further establishes the long-term commitment and focus of the brand with three pointed star in India. It must be noted that the GL-Class was launched in the Indian market in May 2013 with a price tag of Rs. 77.5 lakh (ex-showroom), which has now been lowered to Rs. 72.58 lakh (ex-showroom). The decision taken by the company to locally assemble the GL-Class has brought a significant change in terms its pricing. During the second quarter of the current year, Mercedes-Benz India registered an increase by 32.3 per cent in its sales with 1,756 units as compared to last year's performance of 1327 units in the same quarter.

In the meanwhile, the luxury car manufacturer has showed a strong performance in India by overtaking its German counterparts to become the leading luxury car maker during the month of July 2013. As seen by Industry experts, new models like A-Class, B-class and GL-Class have been instrumental in deriving the increase in sales for the company.
