Mercedes-Benz, the German luxury car manufacturer, will launch the much-awaited CLA-Class sedan in the Indian car market today. It will be the company’s entry-level luxury sedan for the country, which will directly rival against the Audi A3 sedan. The saloon will be made available in both petrol and diesel fuel options. The performance-oriented AMG model of the car was already launched in 2014.
Based on the MFA (Mercedes Front-Wheel Drive Architecture) platform that also underpins the A, B and GLA-Class, the Mercedes CLA sedan features an aggressive front fascia. The front gets a long hood with aggressive creases that merge into a single slat chrome grille flanked by Bi-Xenon headlamps. It features a sloping roofline that offer a coupe-like profile, while the rear-end largely resembles the larger CLS. Inside the cabin, the CLA sedan shares its components with the A-Class and B-Class, though the sedan is lot more spacious than the other two.
The Mercedes-Benz CLA sedan will be offered in both petrol and diesel variants. While the petrol version of the sedan will be propelled by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged unit that is good for 181bhp of power and 300Nm of torque, the oil burner will be a 2.2-litre four-cylinder mill that churns out 135bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. Both engines will be coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that transmits power to the front wheels of the car.
The Mercedes-Benz CLA sedan will be locally assembled at the company’s manufacturing unit in Chakan, Pune. The saloon is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 25 lakh to Rs. 35 lakh.
