Mercedes-Benz India, the German luxury automotive maker, is all revved up for the launch of its much awaited A-Class model in the domestic car market on May 30, 2013. The company is looking to target young Indian buyers with its new product. The Mercedes-Benz A-Class range of premium hatchbacks boast of stellar looks, sophisticated interior setting and the promise of a sporty driving experience. Unlike most other chauffeur-driven 'Three Pointed Star' models available in the Indian auto market, the upcoming A-Class will cater to the owner-driver audience.

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class models have become a runaway hit in the European auto markets. The company is hopeful that it would garner same level of success from the A-Class in India as well. The premium hatchback is young at heart and produces a stunning performance from under its hood. India would get A-Class in both petrol and diesel guises, which would allow it to appeal to a large section of domestic car buyers. Apart from being the tiniest Mercs available in the country, the A-Class would also be the cheapest offering from house of the German auto maker.

Speaking of under-the-hood specifications of Mercedes-Benz A-Class, the premium hatch range would be available with two motor options- a 1.6 litre turbo petrol and a 2.2 litre oil burner. The petrol trim is to be called A180 and the 1.6 litre engine pumps out a top power output of 121 bhp. Further, the A-Class A180 CDI diesel trim is powered by a 2.2 litre motor that generates 118 bhp of peak power, along with a highest torque delivery of 250 Nm. The petrol engine assembly is mated to 7-speed DSG automatic transmission system, however, it is not yet known about the gearbox equipped in the diesel model. As per industry speculations, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class models could carry introductory price tags in the range Rs. 22 to 25 lakh in the Indian auto market.
