The worker’s strike at country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar plant entered into its 11th day on Monday as agitating workers maintained their demand of reinstating all 11 employees which the company had sacked last week. Meanwhile, while softening their stance on the matter, the company management agreed to revoke the suspension of five sacked workers on June 12th.
On the other hand, the workers union is demanding the reinstatement of all 11 colleagues. Mr. Shiv Kumar, general secretary, Maruti Suzuki Employees Union (MSEU) said, "All dismissed employees should be taken back."
So far, the company has lost production of over 9,000 units of its cars due to this strike. The cumulative revenue loss of the company has reached up to Rs 450 crore.
Moreover, the Maruti strike has seemed to struck a chord with other unions. According to Harjeet Grover, general secretary, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India workers union, "We are geared to strike a note with the Maruti management and Haryana government with our proposed tool-down protest on Tuesday. The success of our protest tomorrow will determine our future course of action."
As announced, the workers of neighboring automobile factories including Hero Honda's Daruhera plant, HMSI, Endurance Auto, Satyam Auto and Rico Auto, will be keeping a two-hour tool down strike on Tuesday.
