India’s largest car manufacturer and second largest car exporter is ready to cross the “one-lakh” benchmark for exports. According to the statement published in company’s recent annual report, "Maruti cars are exported to over 100 countries and the volume of exports is likely to cross one lakh units in 2009-10." Maruti is witnessing a strong demand for its latest small car model A-star from the overseas market. The car was launched last year in November and has been extremely successful more in the overseas market than in the domestic market.

Maruti is currently second to Hyundai Motors India Limited in small car exports from India. It exported 70,023 units in the 2008-09 fiscal year. So far Maruti has already exported more than 50,000 units from India in the current fiscal year.

"From a company which was started to produce one lakh cars a year, we have reached a production rate of 10 lakh cars a year," Bhargava said, adding the company has a market share of over 55 per cent in the cars and vans segment.
