The Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki is in the final stage of acquiring land in Gujarat for its new manufacturing plant. According to the company, the acquisition process for the plant will be completed in a month’s time. However, Maruti Suzuki has no plans of commencing the construction work for this new plant immediately. It will be initiating the work for Gujarat plant only after reaching the stage of full utilization at its latest plant at Manesar, in Haryana.

While speaking to the reporters on the sidelines of a seminar at ISB (Indian School of Business), Mr. R C Bhargava, Maruti Suzuki India Chairman, "Land acquisition process is on and we hope it will be concluded in this month. I don't think we will start work on it for some years from now at least two to three years. We should see the market situation."
While denying giving the exact time-line for the starting of construction work for the plant, Mr. Bhargava said that the firm will need Gujarat plant when the Manesar plant capacity is fully utilized. So, that depends on how the market grows. “So, I can't give a date on this," he added.

At present, Maruti Suzuki’s total production stays at 12,00,000 units per annum including 8.5 lakh units from Gurgaon plant and 3.5 lakh units from Manesar plant. The November sales of the company stood at 6,81,200 units, witnessing a sharp fall of 17.8 per cent as compared to the total sales of same month last year.
