Top Indian passenger vehicle manufacturer Maruti Suzuki is looking to introduce new vehicles in its product portfolio with an objective to push sales in the auto market. These new models would be a hatchback and a sedan, which could uplift the fortunes of the company in the prevalent slow market situation.

One of the new vehicles to be introduced is a hatchback, codenamed as YL7. This modern vehicle could be a product to replace the A-Star and the Zen Estilo, which are experiencing low demand. Reportedly, the new vehicle would be made on the small car platform developed by Maruti Suzuki and would go on sale later in 2014. It would be making a public appearance at the upcoming 2014 Delhi Auto Expo.

Even though a facelifted version of the sedan SX4, more fuel efficient than the current version was launched in the Indian market, sales did not quite take off. A new C-segment sedan codenamed as YL1 could become a game changer, as it would be positioned between the Swift DZire and the mid-size SX4. In due course of time, it is also likely that a new SX4, based on the recently revealed 'Authentics' concept, would be launched in India. Once YL1 is launched in the third quarter of 2014, it may replace the current generation of the SX4 sedan. It would then be able to offer strong competition to the likes of Hyundai Verna Fluidic, Honda City, Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Vento, which the current version is not being able to.

For the month of April 2013, Maruti Suzuki experienced a drop of 3 per cent in sales volume, where low exports was also a contributing factor. Both the upcoming YL1 and the YL7 could deliver strong blows to their respective rivals, as Maruti would certainly keep in mind the fundamental requirements of Indian customers before launching the same. In the wake of several new cars being launched by other manufacturers such as Chevrolet Enjoy, Honda Amaze, and the soon-to-be-launched Ford EcoSport, it is only natural the country's top passenger vehicle manufacturer would also be looking at bringing in new cars.
