This move is not new in the Indian market as Nissan also flagged off the same promotion campaign by accepting pre-booking orders for its urban class vehicle Evalia prior to its launch. However on the end of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, this move was taken for the first time and was in contrast with the normal trend of introducing models after its official launch.

Industry experts believe that the car maker is planning to bank on the pre-orders by boosting the interest of buyers in the upcoming festive season and thus, offset the impact of dwindling sales reported in fiscal till now. The sales of India's largest car maker was mainly subdued because of disturbance in its production process, followed by unrest at its Manesar plant.

Reportedly, the upcoming model will boasts off an array of modifications, which will surely lure a large number of buyers. 2012 Alto 800 will house a new 0.8 litre petrol engine of 796 cc, which will deliver a fuel economy of 22.7 kmpl, around 15 per cent more than that offered by the old generation Alto. The new generation vehicle is also provided with a contemporary exterior design, while its interiors has been designed with dual tone upholstery. This time the company has also offered airbags in its upcoming model, ensuring compete safety of its passengers.

Small car segment of Indian auto Industry is completely dominated by MSIL and launching a new model under the moniker of Alto will surely help it in setting new sales record in the market.
