The fire at Subros put Maruti’s production schedule off-track and resulted in a production loss for the largest Indian car maker. The overall sales have dipped by just over 10 per cent to 92,133 units for the month of June.

Subros supplies AC units for Maruti cars. MSIL adopts lean manufacturing with an extremely tight supply chain and hence due to the lack of inventory, the production lines had to be stopped at the Maruti factory for a week. MSIL hopes to recover the loss of production by the end of this year to achieve the targets slated for 2016.

The 75.5 per cent rise in the sales of utility vehicles is driven by the rising sales of the Vitara Brezza with the total number of UVs sold climbing to 9,708 units. Sales figures for the compact cars which include the Swift, Baleno, Celerio, Ritz and Dzire have plunged 12.5 per cent to 39,971 units. Maruti’s C-segment sedan, the Ciaz, has also taken a hit, down by 24.3 per cent to 2800 units for the month of June.
