According to a report, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) will launch the S-Cross in the first week of August, 2015. The company has already started accepting pre-booking orders for a sum of Rs. 25, 000 at its select dealerships. The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross will be retailed exclusively via Maruti’s new premium NEXA dealerships that will be opened in major cities by the end of this year.

The S-Cross, initially, will be launched with two Multijet diesel engine options – a 1.3-litre (DDiS 200) and a 1.6-litre (DDiS 320) paired to a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed manual transmission respectively. The former produces a maximum power output of 89bhp and 200Nm of torque, while the latter offers 118bhp and 320Nm. Since the 1.6-litre Multijet diesel mill will be imported to India, it will involve 67% of localization, whereas the 1.3-litre mill will be manufactured locally with 97% of localization level. The DDiS 200 and DDiS 320 variants are claimed to return 23.65kmpl and 22.7kmpl respectively.

Key Features on offer are Smartplay infotainment system, reverse parking sensor with display, automatic climate control, cruise control, leather upholstery, anti theft security system, ABS (anti-lock braking system), dual airbags and automatic projector headlamps. The high ground clearance (180mm) helps the crossover tackle all sorts of Indian terrains.

Since the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross will be pitted against the Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and Hyundai’s upcoming Creta, we expect it to be priced between Rs. 8 lakh – Rs. 11 lakh (ex-showroom).
