Prices for the Baleno start from Rs. 4.99 lakh for the petrol base variant, and go up to Rs. 8.11 lakh for the top-end diesel model. At this price, the hatchback undercuts its rivals like Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz. The Baleno’s top-end variant comes with several segment-first features such as seven-inch touchscreen display infotainment system with Apple Car Play, taillamps with LED strip and LED daytime running lamps. While features like dual airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system) and EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution) come as standard across all variants.

The Maruti Baleno is available with two engine options – a 1.2-litre K-series petrol and a 1.3-litre Multijet diesel  – that also do duty to the Swift hatchback and Dzire compact sedan. Both the powertrains are paired to a five-speed manual transmission. While a CVT automatic gearbox is offered only on the Delta petrol variant.

R S Kalsi, Maruti Suzuki India Executive Director (Marketing and Sales), said, “We hope to achieve leadership market share in the premium hatchback segment. We have invested about Rs 1,060 crore in this project (manufacturing of Baleno). We will be making exports to 100 overseas locations including Europe, Japan, South America in 2016″.
