Yet another recall this year, but this time, it is the turn of Maruti Suzuki to get involved. This recall comprises of vehicles like Ertiga, Swift, Swift DZire and A-Star, which were manufactured between 19th and 26th October 2013. Also, this recall has been made to correct the faulty steering column in the recalled models. The company said in an official statement, “Users of Ertiga, Swift, DZire and A-Star purchased after 19th October this year have been informed. Customers may also contact the nearest Maruti Suzuki dealer workshop to ascertain if their vehicle is among the above vehicles.”

Preliminary investigations from the auto maker revealed that the steering columns of 306 units of Ertiga, 592 units of Swift, 581 units of Swift DZire and 13 units of A-Star were found to be defective and hence were recalled. Referring to the recall, the company said, “If the steering column is found defective, the company will replace it free of cost.” The auto company also clarified that this recall is only limited to abovementioned vehicles and does not include any other model, including exports.

Speaking on the measures taken, the company officials were quoted as saying, “Maruti Suzuki dealers will contact owners of all vehicles in the above range.” The auto company also stated that the new steering columns have been despatched to dealer workshops for replacement in case of fix defects. Furthermore, customers who made their purchases after 19th October 2013 can easily check the company’s website for ascertaining if their cars are a part of the recall exercise.

One must note that this is certainly not the first time that Maruti Suzuki has made a recall to check for defects and fixes. Earlier, in April 2011, the auto company had recalled 13,157 units of diesel variants of Swift, Swift DZire and Ritz in order to check an engine part. Also, in February 2010, about 100,000 units of flagship export model, A-Star were recalled for replacing a faulty fuel-pump part.
