After ruling the small and compact car segment in the Indian market for more than 2 and a half decade, the country’s largest car maker is all set to debut in the compact MUV segment. The much talked about Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is all set to be launched in the Indian market today. The car has already been unveiled by the company at the Delhi Auto Expo 2012 and most specifications details of the car are already known.

As per the company, the Ertiga model has specially been designed and developed for the Indian buyers, unlike the other portfolio cars of the company, which were developed on a global platform.

The Ertiga model is coming in both petrol and diesel versions in India incorporated with a five speed manual transmission gearbox. The company is debuting its 1.4L K series petrol engine in the Indian market with Ertiga petrol which delivers a peak power of 95bhp along with a considerably higher fuel economy of over 16 km per liter. On the other hand, the diesel version is powered by a 1.3L MultiJet diesel engine, which is currently being sourced from Fiat for firm’s other portfolio cars like Swift, Ritz, Dzire and SX4.

Major competitors of Ertiga in India include segment leaders Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo.
