Maruti Suzuki, one of the most trusted cars makers in India, has been in the news for the launch of the Cervo hatchback for a long time now. However, nothing has been confirmed by the company and everything that has been said till now is based on pure speculation. Rumours suggest that this car could be marketed on the lines of the M800, a hatchback that achieved an iconic status in India. This car set high records and gave a new motoring experience to millions of Indians. Suzuki has already launched the model in Japan, receiving a great response from critics and buyers. Seeing the success of the Cervo in Japan, Maruti Suzuki would be tempted to launch the hatchback in India soon, experts have claimed.

As far as its appearance is concerned, the design looks similar to hatchbacks Chevrolet Beat and Honda Jazz. The Cervo is expected to be lined up alongside the Alto 800, another model by the company that has set a benchmark in the Indian automobile market. Industry experts feel that the Cervo would give tough competition to Hyundai Eon and the Tata Nano. Sources claim that the model would be priced a little higher than the Nano, somewhere in the price range of Rs. 2 lakh. Similar to most of the models manufactured by Maruti Suzuki, the upcoming hatchback is expected to be compact and fuel-efficient. According to reports, the car will be powered by a 0.7-litre engine, giving maximum power of 60 bhp and peak torque of 64 Nm. The Indian model of Cervo is not expected to come with air-bags and power windows, which are present in the international version. Experts feel that the Maruti Suzuki will be excluding these features to keep the pricing strategy in check.

According to sources, Cervo will come as a five door compact car that will be provided with a spacious cabin. On the inside, the dashboard looks a lot like Maruti Swift with rectangular air vents in the centre along with circular ones on the sides and colour illuminated instrument panel. The car is expected to be equipped with safety features like child safety lock, anti-theft system, engine immobilizer, seat belts and passenger side rear view mirrors. The car has been facilitated with a spacious boot so that passengers get enough space for their luggage.

This new offering by Maruti Suzuki will carry a sporty look, featuring tail lights and fog lamps designed to attract buyers. Reports have claimed that the exteriors of this car would be crafted in a way that appeals to youngsters. The design of this car will include a honeycomb radiator grille, finished with chrome strip in the front along with a wiper and spoiler at the rear end. The headlight cluster and the tail light cluster are almost similar while the rear end cluster has dotted LED brake lights and indicators.

Reports suggest that the all new Maruti Cervo is going to be equipped with Variable Valve Timing (VVT) for high fuel efficiency and low carbon emission. If sources are to be believed, then the Cervo might come in an automatic transmission version and a 4-speed manual version. It is expected that the car would give a mileage of around 20-25 kmpl, something that will attract buyers. Industry experts feel that depending on the performance of the petrol version, the company might be tempted to introduce a diesel variant of the Cervo in the future. The car is said to have a broad wheelbase, which will make it much more stable. Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch diesel versions of the WagonR and Alto 800 in the near future. Therefore, it would be interesting to see whether the Cervo makes its way to India before 2014 or not.
