The Celerio hatchback made headlines this year when it was launched with an AMT transmission that is a result of innovative EZDrive technology. The petrol version of Maruti Suzuki Celerio is available for Rs. 4,36,677, whereas the CNG variant is available for Rs. 4.92 Lakhs (Both the prices are ex-showroom Delhi based). The Automated Manual Gear Shift system version of Maruti Suzuki Celerio has no manual clutch and thus there are only two pedals. The system is based on electronic control unit that powers the precision hydraulic actuator to control the clutch engagement and the gear shifting. The recently launched CNG variant is also powered by the existing 1.0-litre K-Series engine, which generates about 68 Ps of power with about 90 Nm of torque. The engine in the manual transmission version is mated to a five speed gearbox. The hatchback is stated to be highly fuel efficient and delivers an impressive mileage of about 23.1 kmpl in petrol, whereas the CNG variant shall return a fuel economy of about 31.79 km/kg. It is based on an electronic control unit which drives the precision hydraulic actuator to control the clutch engagement and the gear shifting. It also ensures that the gear and clutch operations happen at optimal timings.

The anticipated new 800cc diesel engine from Maruti Suzuki is expected to be used in new Celerio. Whereas, the Eeco model may receive a slightly bigger newer engine. For now, the diesel engine is at a developmental stage and the popular Celerio hatchback shall be the first one to receive it. When successful, it may find its way into the Eeco van as well. A detailed report on technical specifications and pricing aspect is awaited from the company, but based on our assumptions the car is expected to priced in range of Rs 4.75 lakh to Rs 5.75 lakh. The diesel engine development from Maruti Suzuki hints on the Indian car-makers future plans to gain a good footing in the commercial vehicle segment.
