Adverse market conditions and economic crisis have affected sales of car makers operating in India. Surprisingly, even the country's largest passenger car maker, Maruti Suzuki, has not been able to perform as per expectation levels. According to sources, the Suzuki-owned firm is banking on Alto 800, Swift and Swift DZire models to register high sales and sustain profitability. The main reason behind such expectations is that all these vehicles have performed well consistently over the past few years. Both, customers and critics have appreciated these models. Thereby, it is no surprise that sales of these vehicles have been increasing regularly.

Alto 800 has been a phenomenal hatchback up till now, be it in terms of sales or customer response. Since its introduction in the market, this model car has consistently posted good sales for Maruti Suzuki. Two top factors that have contributed immensely towards the success of this vehicle are low ownership cost and excellent fuel economy. This car has managed to ward off competition from the likes of Hyundai Eon and Tata Nano. Also, to get an upper hand in the entry-level hatchback segment, the company earlier introduced an all-new version of Alto 800 in the Indian market with enhanced exteriors and interiors.

The price of this hatchback is between Rs. 2.45 lakh and Rs. 3.65 lakh. It offers a mileage of up to 22.74 kmpl according to company claims. The CNG version of this vehicle gives a mileage of up to 30.46 km/kg. A unique wavefront design has been used by the auto maker to give a stylish appearance to the new Alto 800.

Maruti Suzuki Swift is another vehicle that has got a tremendous response in the country. Since its launch in the market, it has bagged several awards due to its unparalleled performance. According to the information available from different sources, the auto company is likely to introduce Swift facelift at Auto Expo 2014. The new version shows minor updates made by the auto company. A new bumper for a distinctive front fascia is expected to be the main highlight of facelift version. The price of Swift ranges between Rs. 4.58 lakh and Rs. 6.95 lakh. Its petrol version gives a mileage of around 18.6 kmpl while the diesel variant offers a fuel economy of 22.9 kmpl.

The auto company also has lot of expectations from Swift DZire. This compact sedan is available has a price range of Rs. 5.02 lakh to Rs. 7.58 lakh. Petrol and diesel versions of this vehicle offer mileages of up to 19.1 kmpl and 23.4 kmpl, respectively. Notably, as per reports released by the auto company, this sedan posted sales of 15286 units in November 2013 as against 13,502 units in same period in 2012.

Industry experts feel that the portfolio of Maruti Suzuki is too strong to get affected by any sort of setback in the market. The fall in sales was a one-off occurrence that is not likely to be repeated again.
