Maruti Suzuki is known for its hatchbacks in the Indian auto market, which not just have appealing looks but are also priced economically. Starting from the basic Maruti Suzuki 800 to the modish Swift, the auto maker has always prioritised such kind of configuration in its cars. Few years back, the company had launched two models named Maruti Suzuki Alto and A-Star in entry level hatchback segment. Duo witnessed decent sales and recently, the auto maker had decided to replace these existing models with a new innovative design called A-Wind concept. This layout was premiered at Thailand Motor Show back in 2013 and company had proposed to showcase it at the Auto Expo 2014. However, sources are now claiming that this concept will be named Celerio in the domestic auto market.

Codenamed YL7, the car is expected to be arriving as the new Maruti Suzuki Alto in international as well as Indian market. Interestingly, the company had already been using Celerio along with Alto badge in some global markets and the upcoming design will be solely flaunting the former tag. 2014 Maruti Suzuki Celerio will also be replacing A-Star from the auto maker's catalogue. It is expected to be much more commodious and technically advanced than its predecessor. The company aims at targeting youths and people planning to upgrade from a 2-wheeler to a 4-wheeler.

It must be noted that Maruti Suzuki Celerio will be equipped with the same engine that Alto K10 carries. The company might retune it to enhance the engine performance. Also, it is expected that the options of automatic and manual transmission will be available in the car for a smooth city ride. Keeping up with the latest requirements, an option of diesel variant is also on the check-list of Maruti Suzuki, which will be added later on. Earlier it was reported that Suzuki has been independently working on its diesel variants which is likely to replace the ongoing Fiat Multijet engine, equipped in almost all cars of the company. Interestingly, the same engine is anticipated to be incorporated in the all new Celerio as well.

The legendary auto maker has chosen Auto Expo 2014 to unveil its new creation. The auto fiesta will be commencing on 7th February and is expected to delight auto aficionados with a multitude of new designs. Rumours are being generated that this car also happens to be a successor of Maruti Suzuki Estilo which was officially discontinued by the company. The company has not hinted about its price range but contemplating on the ongoing entry level hatchback segment, it will be priced competitively.

Notably, Maruti Suzuki has been an indomitable car maker in the hatchback segment for a long time now. With the launch of Celerio, the company is aiming to again create stir competition in the respective segment. Although it is still not known that when Celerio will be finally available for sales, it is expected to face a stiff rivalry from Hyundai Eon. The South Korean auto maker just lags behind Maruti Suzuki, in terms of sales, and has been desperately trying to attain the first spot. On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki is a strong contender as it has been residing in Indian market for almost two decades now and has a repute of the most reliable auto brand among prospective buyers. With its new creation, the Indian auto maker is expected to take a big leap and create new benchmarks in the hatchback segment.
