After witnessing slump in last couple of months, India’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki India reported rise in collective sales (including domestic sales and export) in May 2014 by 19.2 per cent at 1,00,925 units juxtaposed to 84,677 units sold in the same month corresponding year. On the domestic front MSI witnessed growth by 16.4 per cent at 90,560 units as compared to 77,821 units sold in the same month last year.
MSI’s mini segment that comprise of hatchbacks including M800, Alto, A-Star and WagonR, saw slump by 7.5 per cent with only 29,068 units sold last month as compared to 31,427 units in May 2013. Compact segment that includes hatchbacks like Swift, Estilo, Ritz posted growth by 53.9 per cent at 26,394 units in May 2014 as against 17,265 units sold in the same time in 2013.
Sales of Maruti’s compact sedan, Dzire that had been witnessing slump in sales of late, that gradually grew by 9.8 per cent last month at 18, 953 units as against 17,265 units sold in the same month last year. Continuing the low sales trend, SX4 continued to register fall in sales in May 2014 also by 75.9 per cent with just 121 units sold as compared to 503 units sold in the same time last year.
UV segment of MSI that includes Gypsy, Grand Vitara and Ertiga grew by 22 per cent at 5,253 units in May 2014 juxtaposed to 4,307 units sold in the same month in 2013. Sales of Maruti’s Vans-Omni and Eeco increased to 50.2 per cent with 10,771 units sold in May 2014 as against 7,172 units sold in May 2013. Exports also grew by 51.2 per cent at 10,365 units shipped to overseas markets as compared to 6,856 units exported in the same month previous year.
