Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the country’s largest car maker that is currently struggling with a major strike of workers at its Manesar plant, has decided to raise the production of its popular hatchback Swift. The decision has been taken despite the ongoing standoff which is showing no signs of relief for the car maker in near future.

According to the company, out of 670 models of Maruti Swift produced on Friday, 470 were from Manesar facility. The company managed to produce about 625 and 650 units of Maruti Swift on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

At present more than 80,000 buyers in the Indian market are waiting for the new age Swift to be delivered at their door step. After its launch on 17 August, the company was planning to deliver the car to the customers from September. But a huge strike of workers at the Manesar plant on August 29th which is a major facility for the manufacturing of Swift, the company was forced to further extend the delivery period.

The Standoff started when most of the workers at Manesar plant refused to sign the good conduct bond, forced by the company. So far, only 116 workers have signed the bond out of more than 900 permanent workers at the company’s plant. The production loss for the car maker loss due to this strike has reached over 18,000 units, converting into a revenue loss of about Rs 900 crore.
