      Maruti Needs More Engineers Now

      India's largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki, is determined to build its cars in India from scratch by the end of the decade. It has stepped up its recruitment exercises in the country to hire more engineers from various engineering disciplines. It shall seek engineers from disciplines of design, electrical and mechanical engineering. It aims to establish India as a global design hub for Suzuki's small cars available worldwide.

      Maruti Suzuki has plans to recruit nearly 1000 engineers by 2010. It has already hired 170 engineers between April to July 2008 which makes total 570 engineers currently working with Maruti. Earlier Maruti had always worked with 300 engineers but with the launch of its latest models Maruti Swift, SX4 and DZire, it has engaged in an even collaborative research and development engineers in Japan.

      DZire and Swift are fruitful results of 30 Indian engineers which have designed car specifically suited for Indian needs and Indian driving conditions. Although, India specific concepts were envisioned here, nevertheless, the complete car was designed and built almost completely in Japan.

      Maruti is also planning to come out of the image of "small car company". It has launched its models like SX4 and Dzire to cater to high end customers.
