      Maruti finally gives go ahead to Gujarat plant, to sign an agreement with state government on 2nd June

      Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the largest car maker in the Indian auto market, has ended the long standing uncertainty over the establishment of a proposed plant in the state of Gujarat. The company will be signing an agreement with the Gujarat state government on 2nd June for setting-up new manufacturing facility in the Mehsana district in north Gujarat. It had been almost 6 months since the company was mulling over the option of setting-up a new plant in Gujarat.

      As per a statement given by a senior official in the state industries department, "The June 2 agreement will enable the company to execute its strategic plans in the state."

      The new Gujarat based manufacturing facility of Maruti Suzuki will be having an initial capacity of 2.5 lakh cars per annum, to which company plans to increase to up to 20 lakh units per annum in a phased manner. The new plant in Gujarat will be spread over an area of about 500 acres.

      This will be the first ever plant of Maruti Suzuki in India out Haryana where it currently has two mega car making facilities. Along with its vendors and suppliers the company is looking forward to invest a sum of Rs 6,000 crores in the initial stage.
