RC Bhargava, Chairman of country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki has been awarded with the 'The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star' by The Emperor of Japan. The award was given to Mr. Bhargava for his contribution to the strengthening of economic and bilateral relations between India and Japan.
The Award will be given to Mr. Bhargava in a ceremony to be held at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on November 7th, as per a statement issued by the Embassy of Japan in the New Delhi. The statement issued by the Embassy of Japan adds, "in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the promotion of economic relations and mutual understanding between Japan and India. During his career in Maruti, he has introduced Japanese -style management and Japanese manufacturing culture to India."
It is to be mentioned here that Mr. Bhargava has been involved Maruti’s project in India, since the starting the Maruti’s Indian operations in year 1983. He was appointed Managing Director of the Maruti Udyog in year 1985, following his appointment as Chairman and Managing Director of Maruti Udyog in 1990. He served on this position till 1992. Mr. Bhargava was reappointed in year 2007, following the Suzuki’s acquisition of majority stake in Maruti in year 2003.
