The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki has finally announced to hike the price of its cars in the Indian market in the range of 0.3 per cent to 3.4 per cent, which will directly translate into a price hike of Rs 2400 to Rs 17,000. The leading car makers like GM India, Ford and Mahindra have already increased the price of their portfolio models in the Indian market.

The company has blamed the rising input costs and foreign exchange fluctuation for this hike. However, the much popular entry level sedan Maruti Swift Dzire has been exempted from this hike, as the car is set to be launched in a cheaper and trimmed-down version in the country, next month.

After this hike, while the premium mid-size sedan Maruti SX4 will be expensive by Rs 2,400, the popular Maruti Swift diesel version will be expensive by as much as Rs 17,000. The Maruti SX4 was available in the price segment of Rs 7 lakh and Rs 9.11 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) before this hike.

The country’s bestselling car of Maruti Suzuki Alto, which is currently available in the price segment of Rs 2.32 lakh and Rs 3.31 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), has now become costlier by Rs 4,000.
