Maruti Suzuki has introduced a new platform that is lighter and stronger, this enhances the performance, driving dynamics and even the fuel efficiency. The new platform makes the Baleno lighter than the Swift also by 100 kilograms. This is what makes the SHVS a good package from the start.

The Baleno gets the same Swift engines and as it is on a 100 kilogram diet, it gets an added benefit of better performance and fuel efficiency. The Baleno despite competing with the Jazz and the Elite i20 uses smaller engines that are on par when it comes to performance. Even the fuel efficiency, Baleno already returns about 27.3km/l as per the ARAI claimed cycle.

The Baleno doesn’t get SHVS (Smart hybrid vehicle by Suzuki) technology on the Baleno at the moment, however we got speaking to Maruti Suzuki’s Executive Director, Mr R S Kalsi, he told us,” One step at a time. At the moment, it is available on the Ciaz and the next in line is the Ertiga facelift.”

We reckon this might come a bit later and Maruti will be looking at adding the smart hybrid technology to the Baleno at a later stage. Both the Ciaz and the Ertiga are powered by the same 1.3-litre diesel engine that churns 90bhp of power and about 210Nm of maximum torque.
