Mahindra’s next major launch is the S101 and we finally have all the specifications of this new crossover (micro-SUV) that Mahindra is looking at introducing in the coming few months. The Mahindra S101 is likely to be called as XUV100, KUV100 or YUV100. We have learnt that Mahindra is considering to add this new name also to its list, though there is still no clarity on what will its final name will be.

But we do have some more details about the specifications of the Mahindra S101 and these are confirmed details. The micro-SUV will be powered by a 1.2-litre diesel engine and not a 1.5-litre diesel engine. This engine will be coming with a five-speed manual transmission and five-speed AMT (which has been made with engineering inputs from Ricardo, however it has been developed in-house by Mahindra). This new engine will be the three-cylinder version of the 1.6-litre diesel engine that is used on the Ssangyong Tivoli. The other new engine that Mahindra will be adding to its fleet will be the 1.2-litre petrol. Both these engines have been developed by Mahindra and Ssangyong jointly and these will be manufactured with the S101 in Mahindra’s Chakan plant.

At the moment, the two passenger vehicles that are made in Chakan are the XUV500 and the TUV300. Mahindra will be looking at exporting this new micro SUV to other markets. In terms of features it will get in-dash music system with bluetooth, aux and USB; steering mounted audio controls, dual airbags and ABS. The Mahindra YUV100 will be competing with the likes of Hyundai i20 Active and it will be getting daytime running LEDs as well.
