The much awaited model from Mahindra and Mahindra, Xylo, was launched today and we were glad to see a good looking “masculine car” from an Indian car company. The great poise and the grandeur of the car depicted a clear attitude but with a style. The new model was gleaming under the January sun and sported all the features of a luxury sedan. The company promises that the car will be available at select 57 Mahindra dealerships from January and another 44 from the next month. Our first preview of the car standing at the Mumbai dealership impressed us at sight.

      The Powertrain

The company calls it, The Great Travelling Machine, and promises that the car will redefine the future of road travel in India. The powerful 2.49litre m-CRDe engine has the full capacity to deliver the best mileage and it is being touted as a fuel-efficient engine. As per the company specs, it delivers 112bhp and you can have 0-60kmph in just 5.8 seconds. We’re of course all waiting to drive it and see its mileage (will it compare to the Logan?!)

      The Inside Out

The first look of the car definitely is impressive and Mahindra is already India’s undisputed market leader in utility vehicles. The aggressive stance of an SUV is well complimented with the front look of a sedan. The aggressive front grille gives it a complete masculine look and the car has integrated bumpers, and strong curves on the bonnet and fenders.

The interiors look like as they have been designed with the passenger seated inside. It looks as if someone was sitting inside and the seats and interiors were molded around him. It is the only car that offers flatbed seats, simply put, you feel like travelling business with a reputed international airlines. Moreover, one can also stretch his legs comfortably when seated in the third row. Now, that’s pretty comfy, considering that I am nearly six feet tall.

The alphanumeric display on the control panel displays a computer to calculate the mileage and the distance permissible. This comes from its advanced and tech-savvy Digital Drive Assist System (DDAS) that offers all the possible information to the driver starting from basic information like date- time, in-out temperature, speed to more advanced information like gear position, how far will your fuel last, average speed, instant mileage, etc. That’s pretty convenient for those who span long distances in the country. If you keep a constant vigil on the data display, it will surely help you clock the best mileage on your long runs.

Another impressive feature that caught our attention was the Intellipark Reverse Assist that guesses the distance between your rear bumper and the object behind you. It has a visual prompt in the rear view mirror which can be very helpful in backing your car. The car also has inbuilt warning system that alerts you if you do not have your seatbelts on or forget to release the handbrake. Now isn’t that something very intelligent!
