Mahindra will be discontinuing the Bolero and introducing a new-generation version of the utility vehicle based on the TUV300 platform. This will be the new platform on which most of the commercial vehicles from Mahindra will also be coming in after the new safety norms are made mandatory for the Indian car market.
The current generation Bolero will not be able to meet the safety norms that will be made mandatory in 2017. Hence, Mahindra is slowly moving away from the Bolero platform for passenger and even commercial vehicles. There will be an increase in push for the new Imperio than the Bolero Pik-Up that is one of the highest selling commercial vehicles in its segment. The Imperio is based on the Ingenio platform, which is relatively newer.
Mahindra has already started work on the new-generation Bolero, while a new platform is being developed for a future generation Quanto. The company will be looking at getting a seven-seater Quanto too, and this will be majorly for exports. At the moment, Mahindra is working on the facelift version of the Quanto. The production will be shifted to Chakan and the Quanto shall be renamed too.
The Quanto facelift (codenamed as U215) will get the new alphanumeric name and it will be launched with an all new engine and shall come loaded with a lot more features like LED DRLs, touchscreen infotainment system, reverse parking camera, satellite navigation etc. This will be more expensive than the TUV300.
