The brand’s upcoming offering is rumoured to be a premium MPV that will sell alongside contenders like the Renault Lodgy and Toyota’s hugely popular Innova Crysta. With this in mind, Mahindra is to spend Rs 1500 crore to spruce up their Nashik and Igatpuri plants. This is so that vehicle production functions at the Nashik facility can be upgraded while the manufacturing and supply of engines can be bumped-up at the Igatpuri plant.

The Mahindra U321 MPV was spied in mid-2016, and is believed to get the same 1.99-litre diesel engine that powers the XUV500. This motor, which produces 140bhp and 320Nm of torque, may be mated to the same six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmission that’s found on the XUV500.

Mahindra is yet to confirm when the U321 MPV will be launched, however, sources claim that it could hit showrooms in the last quarter of 2017 or early 2018.
